What Can SharePoint Do For Me – Sarju Raja

SharePoint has taken the world by storm in recent years.  But many still wonder exactly what SharePoint is and how it can help them?  Is it an intranet portal, an internet site, a project management system, or a document repository? Is it an ECM system?

The answer is “Yes”.  SharePoint can be all of these things. With proper planning and the right tools and strategies, SharePoint can be anything you want it to be.  It can take your organisation to the next level.  Let’s discuss how.

YELLOW TRACK

Does your intranet seems like being made by the IT geeks? – Jernej Suhadolc

Most of the SharePoint portals in use today look mostly similar – the IT department or an external contractor installs the default MS SharePoint configuration, changes the default logo and some colours, then add some of the preinstalled web parts to a few of the content pages. Finally adjustments include some free web parts that show the weather situation in Vienna, as Murska Sobota isn’t natively supported by the web part.

Our presentation will show that it needn’t be so and that using a proper planning you can point your contractors to go the extra mile and achieve far better results than you even thought possible. We’ll show solutions to common problems, such as how to remove the legendary two level limitation of the left menu, turn off the upper and lower toolbar in Forms Server forms, integrate the forms into a content web page and even design a news overview screen that each PR director will be happy to approve.

However you, as the content owner, are still struggling with end users and all the SharePoint features. In this session we are going to discuss tools you have at hand and simple and effective scenarios you can implement on your portal. These will help end-users to perform day-to-day operations with ease and to boost the overall SharePoint adoption.

GREEN TRACK

SharePoint 2010 – What’s new for Developers – Claudio Brotto

The release of SharePoint 2010 provides several improvements and new features for developers. A revisited set of Visual Studio Tools and Templates will contribute to an easier and more robust development process, and the native support for technologies such as LINQ and SilverLight makes SharePoint 2010 an even more powerful and flexible application platform than it was in the past. This session will introduce the most important development enhancements that will be available with SharePoint 2010.

Learn how to apply this new Microsoft technology in real-life situations and how to properly position this technology with your enterprise and/or clients, as well as how it now positions against known competitors in this space. See how you can save time and how this investment can bring back value on every level in your enterprise.

Migrating from File Shares to Sharepoint and managing it can be easy – Aleš Manfreda

Aleš will present how the migration process form file Shares to SharePoint can be done in few automat zed steps. We'll first take a look at the current permissions on File Shares and show how all permissions can be migrated with the data. Another key point is that we can synchronize File Shares data and SharePoint data. This way user has more time to prepare for working in a new SharePoint environment.

Second part will consist of managing permissions on SharePoint. We will show how managing users in SharePoint can be done in a few minutes using copy/paste functions. Last thing to show is creating reports using SharePoint statistics in one step. We can offer you the report on all SharePoint permissions and much more…

Document Management – Agnes Molnar

Document Management is one of the most important functions of SharePoint. In my session I’ll try to clarify what the word ‘document’ means, what is the typical document lifecycle model, and what kind of tasks/functionalities are needed in a document management system. After discussing these general questions I’ll show how we can take the advantages of the new SharePoint Server 2010 to implement an advanced document management system, what new functions and features we get with SharePoint 2010, and what are the benefits of upgrading to SharePoint 2010 from the view of document management.

Overview of SharePoint upgrade – Matjaž Perpar
